Worcester Unable to Catch Up to Bristol

Worcester, MA— Before the first pitch, the Bravehearts announced that more than 16,000 fans had voted for the team to change their name for one day to the Coney Island Hot Dogs. The other option was another local business, the Table Talk Pies. The name change did not help the team too much, as the Hot Dogs fell to the Bristol Blues 4-2.

Bristol struck first against Worcester starter Sebastian Gruszecki in the top of the fourth inning when a two-out RBI single by Ethan Hunt put Bristol on the board.

Bristol would score three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to extend their lead. After back-to-back singles by Bryce Ramsey and Andrew Hague to lead off the inning, Ryan Lutz hit an RBI single. Matthew Bonvicini followed this with an RBI single of his own to give Bristol a three-run lead. After Tyler Patane came in to relieve Gruszecki, Worcester third baseman Jon Hansen could not handle a ground ball off the bat of Peyton Stephens, allowing the Blues to score their fourth run.

Worcester responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own. After Alex Gionis singled and advanced to third on a pass ball and a wild pitch, Kirk Sidwell reached safely on an error by Blues second baseman Andrew Hague, allowing Gionis to score.

The Bravehearts tacked on one more run in the eighth thanks to an RBI triple by Dustin Harris. Harris finished the night 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Emmet Sheehan picked up the win for Bristol, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 5 hits and one unearned run. Neal McDermott got the save. Gruszecki got the loss for Worcester after pitching 4.2 innings and allowing 7 hits and 4 runs, 3 of which were earned.

With the loss, Worcester falls to 8-10 on the season, while the Blues improve to 13-6. The Bravehearts continue play on the road Thursday night against the North Shore Navigators at 7:00 pm.
