Brockton Shuts Down Worcester’s Bats
Sobalvarro’s grand slam gives Rox a 5-1 win
Brockton, MA— Paul Prue pitched six innings of one-run baseball and Richie Sobalvarro hit a go-ahead grand slam to give Brockton a 5-1 win over Worcester.
The Bravehearts struck first in the top of the third inning. Newly acquired shortstop Tyler Becker collected his first hit as a Braveheart, a single, and then stole second base. With two outs, Michael Dellicarri hit an RBI single to score Becker, giving Worcester a 1-0 lead. It was Dellicarri’s 42nd RBI of the season, which is the most by any player in the FCBL.
Brockton responded in the bottom half of the third against Worcester starter Joseph Mancini. Charlie Maxwell reached first safely on an error by Becker at short. He then stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. Worcester third baseman Jon Hansen couldn’t handle a ground ball off the bat of Matt Johnston, which allowed Maxwell to score and tie the game at one. Hansen was charged with an error on the play.
The Rox would take the lead for good in the home half of the fifth. Matt Johnton once again reached first on an error by Hansen at third. Worcester reliever Tyler Patane walked Zach Gelof and Matt Ronai to load the bases. Richie Sobalvarro then hit a grand slam to give Brockton a 5-1 advantage.
