Bravehearts Win Final Regular Season Home Game
Gearing up for playoffs, Worcester beats Sharks
Worcester, MA - In the first game of a home-and-home against Martha’s Vineyard, the Bravehearts were able to pull away with an 8-5 victory at Hanover Insurance Park.
Sebastian Gruszecki got the start for Worcester, going five strong innings giving up four hits, two walks and only one run while picking up the win.
After the Sharks jumped on the board in the top of the second, Worcester quickly answered. Back-to-back doubles by Brett Coffel and and Kirk Sidwell allowed Worcester to tie the game.
The Bravehearts really took advantage in the third inning. Tyler Becker singled, followed by both Marriano Ricciardi and Edward Haus reaching on bunts. With the bases loaded, league MVP Michael Dellicarri drove in two runs with a single, giving Worcester a 3-1 lead. With Haus on third, Dustin Harris hit a sacrifice fly to increase Worcester’s lead to 4-1.
In the fifth, Worcester continued to add on to their lead. Back-to-back singles by Haus and Dellicarri put runners on the corners with no outs. Dustin Harris then lifted a fly ball into left field which was dropped by Kai Nelson allowing Haus to score. The inning continued with a sac-fly from Jack Gonzalez which scored Dellicarri, followed by an RBI single by Joe Pesce to score Harris. Worcester added one more in the sixth after Ricciardi doubled, followed by an error by the pitcher Andrew Ferraro off the bat of Dellicarri allowing Ricciardi to score and increase the lead to 8-1.
Martha’s Vineyard attempted to comeback, scoring three runs in the eighth and another in the ninth, but ultimately fell short. Worcester will travel to Martha’s Vineyard tomorrow to take on the Sharks for their final regular season game of the season.
Regardless out the outcome tomorrow night, Worcester is scheduled to host a playoff game on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
