Bravehearts Break Single Game Attendance Record
Worcester - On the second baseball in education day, the Bravehearts broke the Hanover Insurance Park record for highest attended event in the stadium’s history. Despite the large attendance, Worcester was not able to pull out a victory against the Westfield Starfires.
After winning two consecutive early morning games, the Bravehearts were not able to make it three for three as they fell to Westfield 6-1 on Thursday afternoon.
After four scoreless innings for both teams through four, the Starfires jumped on the board first with a two-run home run in the fifth by Sean Murphy, scoring Christian Walsh to make it 2-0.
The game stayed that way until the top of the eighth inning. After a Devin Kellogg single and Thomas Joyce was hit by a pitch, Angelo DAcunto flared an RBI single to left which Jakob Sessa could not come up with despite a diving effort. Walsh then hit a three run home run to left-center field, increasing Westfield’s lead to 6-0.
The ‘Hearts got on the board in the eighth, although only scoring once. Ben Rice in his Worcester debut game walked, and was hit in by Craig Corliss on a double down the left field line.
Worcester starter Jack Steele went five innings giving up two earned runs on two hits and three walks. He was also tagged with the loss. For the Starfires, it was starter Jack Fox who got the win, going five scoreless innings only allowing one hit while striking out six.
After an off-day tomorrow, Worcester will be back at home on Saturday at 7 pm. Free “RIP Kelly Square” t-shirts will be handed out to the first 500 fans in attendance. On Sunday, Worcester will have it’s first Kid’s Club Sunday as they will face off against the Pittsfield Suns at 4 pm.
