Civale to Become First Braveheart in MLB
Cleveland, OH - Right handed pitcher and former Worcester Braveheart Aaron Civale is scheduled to be called up from Indians Triple-A affiliate Columbus Clippers to make his Major League debut Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. The call-up comes after the Indians placed pitcher Mike Clevinger on the IL with an ankle injury.
Civale, a native of E. Windsor, CT, was a member of the Worcester Bravehearts 2014 championship team where he appeared in seven games, starting four. He posted a 1.52 ERA with a .97 WHIP on the season and struck out 20 batters in 23.2 innings pitched. He was selected to the Futures League All Star Game that season as well..
Aaron Civale is a product of Northeastern University and played for the Huskies from 2014 - 2016. The Indians drafted him in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft.
In a spring training game against the Boston Red Sox in 2015, he turned heads when he struck out Sox stars David Ortiz, Hanley Ramirez, Mike Napoli and Xander Bogaerts.
“We’re absolutely thrilled for Aaron and this incredible opportunity in front of him,” said Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson. “It was real special to see him pitch on the Fitton Field mound and win a championship with us in 2014. It’s another great success story for the Futures League and especially Coach Mike Glavine and the Northeastern Huskies baseball program.”
In the minors this season while playing for a combination of Double-A Akron Rubberducks and the Triple-A Columbus Clippers, the righty posted a 2.85 ERA in 7 starts including 40 strikeouts.
Peterson, former Bravehearts Manager Justin Edwards, and three other members of the Bravehearts front office are expected to be in attendance in Cleveland for the game Saturday afternoon at 4:10 PM.
