Bristol Beats Up Struggling 'HeartsBristol, CT - Coming off a double header against North Shore, Worcester traveled to Bristol to take on the Blues Saturday night.
Mariano Ricciardi led off the game with a double to right center field, and John Thrasher followed with a single to left. A sacrifice fly by Ben McNeil gave Worcester a 1-0 lead early in the first inning.
Bristol answered in the bottom of the second. A one-out triple by Sam Loda brought up Dylan Reynolds, who hit an RBI double into right-center to score Loda. They would then take the lead in the third. Worcester starter Jeremy Adams allowed three straight walks to start the inning to John Orzechowski, Austin White and Parker Upton. Brandon Miller then hit a two-run single up the middle scoring Orzechowski and White to give Bristol a 3-1 lead.
The damage continued the next two innings. In the fourth a single by Danny Roth followed by a walk by Orzechowski brought up Austin White. The centerfielder then doubled home both runners increasing the lead to 5-1. Parker Upton hit next for Bristol, who singled in White giving the Blues another run. In the fifth, a double by Kyle Maves led off the inning. Orzechowski blooped an RBI single to right to score Maves, bringing the lead to 7-1.
The scoring continued in the sixth for Bristol. Reliever Chris Keenan committed an error to start the inning after bobbling a ground ball back to him. After allowing walks to Loda and Reynolds, Roth hit a sacrifice fly to score Buddy Dewaine who reached on the error.
Worcester attempted to comeback in the eighth. Idelson Taveras was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and replaced by PJ Barry on the bases. Thrasher singled to put runners on first and second. After a Mack Cheli walk, Jack Gardner hit a two run single to cut the lead to five. A throwing error by the third basemen Dewaine off the bat of Ben Rice allowed Cheli to score to make the score 8-4.
The Bravehearts comeback attempt fell short in the ninth. Joe Pesce led off the inning with a single followed by back-to-back walks by Barry and Ricciardi. A sac-fly from Thrasher scored Pesce to make the score 8-5, but that is all Worcester could get.
For Bristol, Cam Van Hoorebeke got the win going six innings giving up three hits and three walks while striking out two and allowing one run. For Worcester, Adams got the loss going three and a third innings giving up six runs on six hits and four walks.
Worcester returns home tomorrow to face the North Shore Navigators for their second Kid’s Club Sunday. First pitch is schedule for 4:05 pm with all kids under 12 who are part of the Kid’s Club getting in for free. |
