Bravehearts Split Double-HeaderWorcester - After losing to Pittsfield on Wednesday, Worcester looked to turn things around on Friday night during a double header against the North Shore Navigators.
In game one, North Shore got on the board first. In the fourth inning, Sean Lawlor reached on a fielders choice, followed by a Logan Bravo single. Tyler MacGregor then singled in Lawlor for the first run of the game.
Worcester answered in the top of the sixth. A single by Idelson Taveras started the inning off. A wild pick-off attempt by starting pitcher James Flood allowed Taveras to get to third base. A sacrafice fly by Mariano Ricciardi scored Taveras and tied the game.
The Navs fought back in the bottom half of the inning. After a leadoff double by Keagan Calero, Jakob Barker replaced Worcester starter Angelo Baez. A sacrafice fly by Lawlor allowed Calero to reach third and a wild pitch brought him home for a 2-1 lead. The Navigators would hold onto the lead as Beau Dana recorded his seventh save of the year in a perfect inning.
For the Navigators, it was Flood who got the win, going six innings allowing only one run and two hits while striking out four. For Worcester, Angelo Baez got the loss allowing two runs on two hits despite striking out nine.
In game two, once again North Shore got off to a strong start. After a lead-off single by Sean Wetterau, Sean Lawlor hit a two-run home run to deep center field to give North Shore a 2-0 lead.
Worcester got on the board in the top of the fourth. Ben McNeil walked, and Mack Cheli followed with an RBI double to bring him in and make the score 2-1. Jack Gardner and PJ Barry continued with back-to-back walks. With the bases loaded Aiden Wilde grounded to the shortstop Bravo who got Barry out on the force, allowing Cheli to score. Starting pitcher Trysten Sarcone then threw a wild pitch allowing Gardner to score and give Worcester the lead.
North Shore got the run right back. Tyler MacGregor singled, and Nolan Watson then hit a double off the wall to score MacGregor and tie the game at 3.
It took only a half an inning for Worcester to answer. Joe Pesce led off the inning with a double, and advanced to third then scored on two wild pitches by reliever Jake Gigliotti. Insurance was added for Worcester in the sixth. Jack Gardner and Aiden Wilde singled, followed by a triple by catcher Craig Corliss to make the score 6-3.
North Shore attempted to rally in the sixth. Bravo and Calero walked to start the inning and advanced on a wild pitch. A ground ball to second by Nolan Watson allowed Bravo to score to make the score 6-4. It would stay that was as Worcester was able to take the second game of the double header.
Troy Klemm got the win for Worcester going four innings giving up three runs on five hits and four strikeouts. Bryce Hellgeth got the save going two scoreless innings striking out three without allowing a hit.
Worcester will travel to Bristol tomorrow before returning home on Sunday to face the Navigators once again. |
