Bravehearts Fall Late to Suns

Pittsfield, MA- The Worcester Bravehearts took a tough loss Thursday night against the Pittsfield Suns by the score 2-1, as Pittsfield walked off at Wahconah Field.

After both teams were unable to score through the first six innings, the Bravehearts finally broke through in the top of the seventh. Aidan Wilde led off with a single. A fielder’s choice retired Martin but allowed Joseph Pesce to reach. Nicholas Martin walked, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Pesce would come home on a Mariano Ricciardi sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

The game was far from over, however. Pittsfield tied it up in the ninth. Nate Cormier singled, then advanced to third on two wild pitches by Bravehearts closer Bryce Hellgeth. After Troy Strack walked, Cormier scored when Mark Coley singled him home. Another wild pitch would score Strack and give Pittsfield the win.

Hellgeth took the loss for Worcester, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. Getting the win for the Suns was Henry Leake. He threw a scoreless inning while giving up a hit and striking out a batter.

Worcester drops to 22-22 with the loss, while Pittsfield moves up to 25-19.

The Bravehearts’ next game will be at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field Friday night against the Nashua Silver Knights. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
