‘Hearts Jack Moynihan No-Hits Blues in Second Game

Bristol- Following multiple delays due to heavy rain, the Bravehearts took the field for their doubleheader against the Bristol Blues in Bristol, Connecticut.

Game 1 – Bristol 12, Worcester 4

Worcester started off game one of the doubleheader strong, sending all nine batters to the plate. Five Worcester batters drew walks, while three batters crossed the plate giving starting pitcher Cole Chudoba a three-run cushion to work with before touching the mound. John Thrasher would add a run for Worcester following his second homerun of the season, a long fly ball over the left field wall.

Bristol would match Worcester’s three runs in the bottom of the inning and brought in the go ahead run in the second. Three more runs would come in on a homerun in the fourth. Bristol’s offense would really come alive in the bottom of the sixth in which they scored five runs.

Chudoba’s night would come to an end after 3+ innings of work in which he allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits (one homerun) and two walks, while striking out three. Worcester’s relievers of Joe Nemchek, Chris Keenan, Travis Owens, and Brian Robertson combined for three innings of work, giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits and six walks while striking out four.

Game 2 – Bristol 1, Worcester 5

Pitching was the name of the game in game two of the doubleheader, with an all-out pitchers’ duel running through the first two innings of the game before Worcester broke out offensively in the third.

RBI singles by Nicholas Martin and John Thrasher, along with a sacrifice fly by Chris Rinaldi powered the Bravehearts to a three-run lead in the third inning. The offense would continue in the seventh when an RBI groundout by Thrasher would give Worcester the insurance they needed.

Jack Moynihan was the story of the second game, pitching a no hitter. His final line was seven innings, one unearned run, one walk, and one hit batter.

Worcester continues their road trip tomorrow, August 1st, in Westfield.
