Worcester Wallops WestfieldWestfield, MA- The story of the night was the hitting by the Worcester Bravehearts, as they scored six runs in a 6-1 road victory over the Westfield Starfires. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning, when Worcester struck first. After Aidan Wilde singled to lead off the inning, Joseph Pesce promptly doubled him home to give Worcester a 1-0 lead. Pesce advanced to third on a Nicholas Martin infield single, and scored on a John Thrasher groundout. Worcester wasn’t finished scoring. Two errors in the top of the sixth gave Worcester runners at first and second, and Wilde broke the game open with a three-run home run to right field to make the score 5-0. The Bravehearts added more insurance in the top of the eighth when Thrasher brought Martin home on an RBI double to put Worcester up 6-0. Westfield led off the ninth inning with a solo home run by Christian Walsh, but could do no more. Getting the win for Worcester was Bravehearts starter Evan Moore, who went six scoreless innings while giving up two hits and three walks. Shayne Rice picked up the loss for Westfield. He gave up five runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits in six innings. Worcester now sits at 28-24 with the win. Westfield drops to 15-37.
