Bravehearts Take Game OneWorcester, MA - After defeating the Pittsfield Suns in a single elimination game 10-1 on Monday night, Worcester traveled to Brockton for game one of a three game semi-finals series to face the Rox.
Worcester got things going in the first. Mack Cheli walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Tyler Becker grounded out to advance Cheli to third, Riley Livingston hit him home for the first run of the game.
In the third, Worcester added three more. John Thrasher led off the inning with a single and stole second base. A groundout by Ben Rice advanced Thrasher to third. Chris Rinaldi singled in Thrasher, and was then hit home on a double by Cheli. Livingston hit Cheli in for the second time of the game with an infield single increasing the ‘Hearts lead to 4-0.
The Rox got on the scoreboard in the third inning. Two singles by Marc Goulart and Eddy Hart with one out brought up BJ Murray. A sac-fly from Murray brought the score to 4-1.
An answer came from Worcester in the fifth inning. Ben Rice walked to start the inning and was hit home on a double by Tyler Becker to increase the lead to 5-1. The team added another run in the eighth inning. Ricciardi singled and Rice hit him in with a double to deep center.
Brockton added a run in the ninth when Gabe Giosso scored on a passed ball bringing the score to 6-2. That was all Brockton could manage as Jakob Barker shut the door on Brockton.
Worcester starter Eric Chavarria got the win for Worcester. The righty out of Cypress College went seven innings giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and one run while recording seven strikeouts.
The Bravehearts will have an off-day tomorrow before returning home for game two on Thursday night. First pitch will be at 7:05 pm.
