Bravehearts

Worcester, MA- In another pitcher’s duel, the Worcester Bravehearts earned their fourth straight win over Westfield Wednesday evening at Doyle Field.

The win moves the first-place Bravehearts to 6-3 on the season, while Westfield falls to 4-4.

Despite loading the bases in the eighth while trailing by two runs, Westfield was only able to get one run across when Cedric Rose scored on an Andre Marrero walk. While Reggie Crawford reached second place on a walk and sacrifice bunt, back-to-back strikeouts iced the game for Worcester. 

Assumption pitching led the way for Worcester. Bravehearts starting pitcher Cole Chudoba picked up the win. He threw five innings of one-run ball, giving up two hits while walking one and striking out three. Fellow Greyhound and Braveheart Brendan Desautels earned the save, giving up no runs in 1.2 innings pitched. Desautels walked two and struck out two.

Worcester got the scoring started early. In the first, Aidan Wilde (Stonehill) drove in Danny Torres (St. Leo) on a sacrifice fly. The lead grew in the fourth when a solo home run by Wilde extended the lead to 2-0.

The Starfires cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth when a Reggie Crawford solo home run made it 2-1. Worcester added insurance later that inning when  Ben McNeill go hit by a pitch, which forced Trevor Johnson (Dartmouth) home from third.

Taking the loss for Westfield was Brandyn Garcia. He went 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits, walking two and striking out three.

The Bravehearts go back on the road Thursday for a tilt against the North Shore Navigators. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00.
