Keegan Wreaks Havoc on WorcesterLEOMINSTER, MA – Nashua first baseman Dominic Keegan hit two homeruns and delivered five RBI, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the eighth inning, as the Silver Knights downed the Bravehearts 9-3 at Doyle Field in Leominster Tuesday night. The win snapped Worcester’s three-game winning streak and ended their undefeated season at home. Nashua (9-7) has now won four of its last six games. Keegan began the scoring with a solo homerun to right field in the fourth inning. Nashua tacked on another run in the sixth inning on a Brady Day RBI single, but Worcester cut the deficit in half on a solo homerun for Ben Rice (Dartmouth) in the home half. The Bravehearts jumped ahead in the seventh inning thanks to a Nick Martin (Westfield State) two-run dinger to left-center field, but Keegan came to the rescue with a no-doubt blast to score two runs. Nashua exploded for five runs on five hits in the ninth inning – highlighted by a Dylan Jones homerun and a Keegan two-RBI double – to provide Nashua some breathing room. Both starting pitchers were solid but had to work out of danger multiple times. Worcester righty Eric Chavarria (Lewis & Clark State) threw five 1/3 innings, allowed two runs, and struck out seven. He stranded six runners on base. Nashua’s Josh Roberge allowed one run in five 2/3 innings and fanned eight batters. He left five runners on base. Griffin Young got the win by pitching the final two 1/3 innings for Nashua without allowing a run, while Jonathan Rice (Stonehill) took the loss by allowing the Keegan two-run shot in the eighth. John Mead (two) and Day (three) each had multi-hit days for Nashua in addition to Keegan’s four-hit performance. Martin had three hits and Ben McNeil (NYIT) and Tyler Patane (Franklin Pierce) each had two hits apiece for the Bravehearts. With the four-game homestand now over, Worcester (9-5) heads to Westfield tomorrow for a 6:30 PM first pitch with the Starfires. |
