Steele's Stellar Game Knocks Out RoxLeominster, MA – A two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Worcester Bravehearts to their third straight victory at Doyle Field on Sunday.
After Jack Gardner (Morehead State) singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ben McNeill (NYTI) hit his second home run of the season to put the Bravehearts up 2-0.
The Bravehearts move to 12-5 with the win, while Brockton falls to 8-9.
Despite putting 10 runners on base in the first seven innings, the Bravehearts were unable to bring anybody home before finally breaking through in the eighth.
Bravehearts starter Jack Steele (UMass Amherst) pitched seven innings of scoreless ball, giving up six hits and walking two. His 12 strikeouts tied Ryan Auerbach for second-most in a single game in Bravehearts history.
Earning the win for the Bravehearts was Will Hesslink (Boston College). He pitched a scoreless eighth inning, giving up one hit and striking out one. The loss went to Kevin Dow, who gave up two runs on two hits while striking out three. Pitching a scoreless ninth and picking up the save was Hunter Reynolds (Franklin Pierce), who struck out one.
The Bravehearts are off on Monday before heading to Nashua to face the Silver Knights. First pitch is set for 6:00. |
