Bravehearts Lose Pitching Duel to Starfires

Leominster, MA— Anthony Redfern (Georgetown) pitched seven impressive innings of scoreless baseball to give the Starfires a 1-0 victory over the Bravehearts at Doyle Field Wednesday night. The Worcester lineup managed just two hits off of the Westfield starter.

The Starfires scored the only run of the game in the sixth inning. Worcester starter Christopher Mott (NYIT) left the game after five scoreless innings and was relieved by Justin Murray (Dartmouth). David Matthews (CCSU) led the inning off with a single. When Johnny Tuccillo (Stony Brook) singled, Matthews was thrown out at third on a controversial call. Tuccillo advanced to second and scored on a two-out single off the bat of Michael DeMartino (SCSU).

Redfern picked up the win for the Starfires, pitching seven scoreless innings off 2 hits, one walk and 6 strikeouts.

The Bravehearts threatened in the seventh. With two outs, Aidan Wilde (Stonehill) walked and Tyler Patane (Franklin Pierce) singled. Ben McNeill (NYIT) then ripped a line drive to left, but Tyler Fote (CCSU) made a great catch to end the inning. Ben Rice (Dartmouth) and Patane had the only hits of the game for Worcester.

Mott pitched well for Worcester, going five scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit and two walks, while striking out eight Starfire batters. Murray picked up the loss for Worcester. He pitched three innings, giving up the game’s only run off four hits.

With the loss, Worcester falls to 20-12 on the season, while the Starfires improve to 14-19. The Bravehearts continue playing tomorrow night in Nashua against the Silver Knights. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm.
