Suns Spoil Bravehearts Saturday NightWorcester, MA— The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Pittsfield Suns in the ‘Hearts’ return to Fitton Field by a score of 10-3. Christian Womble (Cloud County), starting pitcher for Pittsfield, had an impressive day on the mound, not allowing a hit and tallying eleven strikeouts over six innings. Pittsfield’s bullpen continued Womble’s dominant effort, combining for four strikeouts and three hits over the final three frames.
Pittsfield struck first in the fifth inning, when Alex Amalfi (UMass Boston) gave up a lead-off double to Jake Blinstrub (Mount St. Vincent) to start the inning. The Suns took a 1-0 lead after five innings.
Worcester moved to the bullpen in the sixth inning, where Jared Kapurch (St.Petersburg) gave up four runs on four hits in one inning of work. Veteran Braveheart Brian Robertson (College of Central Florida), along with Michael Bean (Merrimack College) and Rico Riley (Jackson State), came in relief for the Bravehearts as Pittsfield scored six more runs to make the score 10-1.
Pittsfield shortstop Alexander Aguila (Virginia Commonwealth) broke the Future’s League single game stolen base record with his fifth of the game in the top of the eighth inning. The record was previously held by Maxx Sheehan who stole four in 2015.
Michael Perales (Amherst) breaks Pittsfield’s combined no-hit bid with a hard hit ball to shortstop, scoring Andrew Selima (Holy Cross). The Bravehearts were unable to get much going on offense, with Perales recording the only two hits of the night, both of them singles. Another RBI single by Perales and a sacrifice fly by Nick Martin (Westfield State) made the score 10-3 in the ninth before the game concluded. |
