Bravehearts Bash Sea UnicornsNorwich, CT— The Worcester Bravehearts used a big third inning to beat the Norwich Sea Unicorns 7-2. The win brings the Bravehearts record to 16-14, while dropping the Sea Unicorns to 15-15.
The scoring began in the top half of the third inning, with the Bravehearts scoring seven runs. Following a leadoff single by Michael Perales (Amherst) and a walk by Shrewsbury native Nick Martin (Westfield State), Randy Flores (Franklin Pierce) laced a single up the middle to score Perales. Martin then scored on an RBI double by Dakota Harris (Polk State). Flores would score on a passed ball. Alex Neff (Dayton) knocked in Harris with a sacrifice fly. The scoring continued when North Attleboro’s Zach DeMattio (Wheaton) had an RBI single, which was then followed by a two-run home run by Andrew Selima (Merrimack).
The Sea Unicorns responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a fielder’s choice by Kaelen Culpepper. They would then score again in the seventh on a double by Bryan Loriga.
The Bravehearts starting pitcher was Jack Choate (Assumption) of North Grafton, MA. He picked up the win, going five innings, allowing just one hit, one run, and striking out nine batters. He was relieved by Shrewsbury’s Tyler Mudd (Holy Cross), who struck out five batters over three innings. Dennis Colleran (Northeastern) of North Attleboro came in to finish the game, and struck out the side in his lone inning.
The Bravehearts travel to Brockton, MA to face the Rox, Saturday, July 3rd. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm at Campanelli Stadium. |
