Ninth Inning Propels 'Hearts to Win

Pittsfield, MA— The Worcester Bravehearts beat the Pittsfield Suns 6-4 Tuesday night at Waconah Park. With the win, Worcester moves to 17-15, while Pittsfield moves to 20-13 with the loss.

The Bravehearts did not waste any time getting onto the board, scoring two runs after each of the first three batters of the game recorded hits. A leadoff single by Randy Flores (Franklin Pierce) was followed by an RBI double by Dakota Harris (Polk State) and an RBI single by Gavin Noriega (Marist).

Pittsfield responded in the bottom of the inning when Suns leadoff hitter Seth Werchan (Penn) took ‘Hearts starter and Sharon native Max LeBlanc’s (UMass) first pitch into the right field bullpen, cutting the lead in half. A couple of errors led to the tying run coming in. A sacrifice fly by Werchan and a double by Trent Taylor (Central Florida) in the fourth inning would break the tie, bringing the score to 4-2.

Worcester responded in the fifth after Flores hit a sacrifice fly driving in Shrewsbury native Nick Martin (Westfield State). An error by the Suns would allow Michael Perales (Amherst) to score the tying run. The tie was broken in the top of the ninth when Harris drove in Martin and Noriega drove in Flores, bringing the score to 6-4.

Holden native LJ Keevan (UMass Lowell) got the win for Worcester after five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while racking up ten strikeouts. Cabot Maher (Colby) was tagged with the loss for Pittsfield after allowing two runs on two hits and a walk.

Worcester returns to Fitton Field tomorrow, Wednesday July 7th to face the Westfield Starfires for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m. The first game will be nine innings, followed by a seven-inning game thirty minutes after.
