Bravehearts Rally Late for WinWorcester, MA— The Worcester Bravehearts beat the Pittsfield Suns Friday night at Fitton Field, 5-4. With the win, Worcester moves to 27-25, while Pittsfield moves to 28-23.
The Suns got on the board immediately, scoring two runs in the first inning on a home run by Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern). The Bravehearts cut the lead in half in the second inning after Gavin Noriega (Marist) doubled and was driven in by an Andrew Selima (Merrimack) single.
The Suns added a run in the third and seventh innings, bringing the score to 3-1 and 4-2, respectively. Worcester made the score 3-2 in the fourth after a single by Shrewsbury native Nick Martin (Westfield State) drove in Zach DeMattio (Wheaton).
The Bravehearts rallied in the eighth inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Gavin Noriega (Marist) led off the inning with a double. DeMattio followed him with a single. Selima reached base on an error, which drove in Noriega. Kenny Mallory Jr. (Vanderbilt) then singled, driving in DeMattio. The final run was scored when pinch runner Mark Darakjy (Northeastern) came home on a wild pitch.
Dennis Colleran (Northeastern) earned the win for the ‘Hearts after holding the Suns to one run on three hits and two walks. Colleran also struck out two in his two innings of work. Pittsfield’s Jake Mullen (Bowdoin) was on the hook for the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out one in 2.1 innings.
Worcester returns home tomorrow, July 31st to face the Westfield Starfires. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
