'Hearts Earn Key Win in Playoff RacePittsfield, MA- The Worcester Bravehearts earned a 9-4 victory against the Pittsfield Suns in the midst of a tight playoff race on Tuesday Night. With the win, Worcester jumps to 29-31 and now holds a 1.5 game lead over the Westfield Starfires for the final playoff spot. With three games left in the season for Worcester, their magic number to clinch a postseason berth is three.
Worcester wasted no time in the first inning against Pittsfield after a two-out double by Zach Demattio (Wheaton) scored Cam Caraher (SNHU) and Mark Daraky (Northeastern). They added five more in the second to go up 7-0. Buddy Mrowka (Northeastern), and Gavin Noriega each had an RBI single, Caraher had an RBI double and Demattio was credited with a sac-fly that ended up scoring two runs after an errant throw home. Matt Maloney (Dayton) added to the scoreboard in the fourth with a two run single scoring Kenny Mallory Jr. (Vanderbilt) and Nick Martin (Westfield State) making the score 9-2.
Worcester’s starter Max LeBlanc (Umass Amherst) went four innings giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out four.
Pittsfield struck for two runs in the late innings, but Worcester ultimately was able to hold on for the 9-4 victory
The team will play out the remainder of the regular season at home, with games at Fitton Field on Wednesday against the Brockton Rox, Thursday against the New Britain Bees, and Friday against the Nashua Silver Knights to conclude the regular season. First pitch for all three games will be at 6:30 pm
