Home Opening Win for 'HeartsThe Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Nashua Silver Knights 12-2 Friday night in Worcester’s 2022 home opener at Fitton Field.
The Bravehearts are now 1-1 on the season, as is Nashua.
Worcester broke the game open in the second inning, plating four unearned runs in the frame. Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) added to Worcester’s lead in the following inning, hammering a solo shot over the right field fence.
The scoring continued for Worcester in the sixth, thanks to a single from Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg) that drove in Matt Livingston (Siena). David Pedanou (Dayton) crossed the plate on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 7-2.
In the seventh, three straight wild pitches with the bases loaded scored Lewis Barnum (Bryant), Seymour, and Livingston to extend the ‘Hearts lead to 10-2. A passed ball later in the inning scored Pedanou, and a sacrifice fly by Joe Pesce (Franklin Pierce) brought home Sebastian Mexico (Fordham) to end the inning at 12-2.
Nashua’s two runs came in the fourth and sixth innings, each the result of three straight singles to begin the inning.
Bravehearts starter Tanner Smith (Harvard) earned the win after allowing just three hits and one run while striking out eight batters through five complete innings of work. Nashua’s Brock Pare (Salem State) was credited with the loss after allowing five runs, one earned, on four hits through three innings.
The Bravehearts are on the road tomorrow, again playing Nashua, before returning to Fitton Field Sunday afternoon to take on the Norwich Sea Unicorns. First pitch for Sunday is scheduled for 4:00.
