Worcester Walks on SunsThe Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Pittsfield Suns 9-6 Memorial Day afternoon at Fitton Field. Worcester is now 3-1 on the season while Pittsfield sits at 1-4. It was the third straight game the Bravehearts took a second inning lead. A double by Matt Livingston (Siena) was followed up by an RBI triple by Lewis Barnum (Bryant). Barnum scored on a wild pitch to give Worcester a 2-0 lead. Pittsfield cut the lead in half in the top of the third thanks to an RBI single by Drew Metzdorf (UMass Boston) that scored Taylor Gaspar (Stonehill). The Bravehearts responded in the bottom of the frame, putting up three more runs. TJ Wachter (Fordham) doubled home Kosta Drosidas (Anna Maria), followed by an RBI single by Barnum that scored Wachter. Andrew Chronister (Shippensberg) joined in on the fun with an RBI single of his own that brought home Barnum to give Worcester a 5-1 lead. Two more runs in the fourth and another run in the sixth gave Worcester an 8-1 lead they would not relinquish. Pittsfield scored five runs in the final three innings but could not keep pace with the Bravehearts. Worcester would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a Livingston RBI double that scored Gavin Noriega (Marist). The win went to Bravehearts starter Chris Grome (RPI). He gave up one run in five innings of work on four hits and a walk while striking out 10. Suns starter Aiden Rice (Mount St. Vincent) took the loss, giving up seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits and a walk in four innings. The Bravehearts are on the road Tuesday against the New Britain Bees for a 10:35 a.m. matchup before returning to Fitton Field Wednesday night to play the Brockton Rox. First pitch for Wednesday’s game is scheduled for 6:30.
