Five Straight Wins for WorcesterThe Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Brockton Rox 15-5 Wednesday night at Fitton Field with a seven-inning, mercy-rule win. Worcester is now 5-1 on the season while Brockton falls to 3-3. Brockton started the game off in a big way, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Ryan Donnelly (Sacred Heart) scored on an error to give Brockton the lead. Walks with the bases loaded to Eric Volpi (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Dennis Gamester (Sacred Heart) gave the Rox a 3-0 lead. After Worcester responded with a run in the bottom of the first, Brockton responded with two more runs in the top of the second. Donnelly scored on another error, and Jaden Sheffield (Georgetown) came home on a passed ball to put the Rox up 5-0. The Bravehearts’ frantic comeback began in the bottom of the third. Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) began the inning with a solo home run. TJ Wachter (Fordham) then doubled, scoring on a David Pedanou (Dayton) RBI single. Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) drove in Pedanou with an RBI double. Tying the game was Andrew Chronister (Shippensberg) with an RBI single of his own to make it 5-5. Worcester took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria) singled Lewis Barnum (Bryant) home to give the ‘Hearts a 6-5 lead. The ‘Hearts continued to pour it on in the fifth, scoring a whopping nine runs on six hits in the frame. The fifth was capped off on an inside-the-park grand slam by Wachter. The win went to Bravehearts reliever Tyson Luna (Amherst), who went 4.1 innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five. Picking up the loss was Rox starter Tristen Spalter (Babson), who gave up 10 runs, nine earned, on 13 hits and a walk, striking out two. The Bravehearts will be on the road tomorrow against the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Dodd Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30. |
