Bees Spoil Worcester's 300th CelebrationWorcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts fell Sunday afternoon to the New Britain Bees 5-1 at Fitton Field. Worcester falls to 8-7 with the loss, while New Britain moves up to 7-8. The Bees led from the start, with Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce) scoring on an RBI single by Teddy Schoenfield (MIT) in the top of the first. New Britain struck again in the top of the second inning thanks to an RBI single by Matthew DeRosa (Quinnipiac) that scored Tyler Robinson (Dartmouth). The Bravehearts responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth. Joe Pesce (Franklin Pierce) drove in Mark Darakjy (Northeastern) with an RBI double, but that would cap the scoring for Worcester. New Britain added an insurance run in the top of the sixth, when an error scored Colton Shaw (Yale), and tacked on two more runs in the ninth. Lara came home on another error, and Schoenfield would score on an RBI single by Craig Corliss (UMass Boston). The win went to New Britain reliever Bryan Kraus (Rhode Island). In two scoreless innings, Kraus gave up one hit and struck out three. Bravehearts starter Brodey Tinkham (Massachusetts Maritime) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on four hits in four innings, striking out five. The Bravehearts have an off-day Monday before going on the road to face the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 7:30. |
