Stars Shine in Westfield

The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Westfield Starfires 10-2 Thurday night at Bullens Field. 

The win was the third straight for Worcester and moved the ‘Hearts to 11-7 on the season. Westfield drops to 12-7. 

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth, when the Bravehearts broke through. A two-out double by Cam Seymour (Southern Maine) was followed up by an RBI single by David Pedanou (Dayton) that scored Seymour.

Worcester added to the lead in the fifth. An RBI single by Sal Grinstead (Palm Beach State) scored Sebastian Mexico (Fordham), with Jake Marquez also scoring on an error. 

Three more runs would come across for the Bravehearts in the sixth. Back-to-back walks were followed by a Mexico RBI single that brought home Pedanou, with Justin King (Harvard) also scoring on an error. Mexico would come home on a sacrifice fly by Jake Marquez (Maine), giving Worcester a 6-0 lead. 

TJ Wachter (Fordham) tacked on another run in the seventh with a sacrifice fly that scored Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria). In the eighth, King would score on another RBI single by Grinstead.

Wachter would score again, in the ninth on a wild pitch. A passed ball later in the inning would score Seymour. 

Westfield did not score until the bottom of the ninth inning, thanks to a two-run home run by Noah Campanelli (St. John Fisher) that also scored Jack Wentworth (Seton Hall). 

Bravehearts starter Kyle Rizy (Bryant) picked up the win. He tossed six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out 10. The loss went to Starfires starter Ryan Donahue (Westfield State). Donahue gave up six runs (four earned) on eight hits, walking three and striking out six.

The Bravehearts return to Fitton Field Friday night for a rematch with the Starfires. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
