Bravehearts Lose Late Lead
NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Bravehearts lost 8-2 to the New Britain Bees on Sunday, making
their overall record for the season 12-9.
The game started off in a stalemate with neither team being able to score for the first several
innings despite getting multiple hits and runners on base. The score would stay 0-0 until the top
of the fourth inning when the Bravehearts were able to push across a run on an RBI double to
shallow right field to make the score 1-0. The ‘Hearts would score another run on back-to-back
doubles in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 2-0. The Bee retaliated with a rally in the
bottom half of the eighth inning and scored eight runs of their own, making the score 8-2. The
Bravehearts were unable to push across anymore runs of their own, making the final score 8-2
with the New Britain Bees taking the win.
The Bravehearts went through several pitchers throughout the game. Joe Hauser (Notheastern)
started pitching for the Bravehearts. Hauser had no walks and got eight strikeouts for the
Bravehearts. He was relieved by Mike Simes (UMass Lowell) in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Simes pitched for one inning and had one strikeout before he was also relieved in the bottom of
the seventh inning by Nate Novia (AIC) who gave up one walk. Novia was relieved in the
bottom of the eighth inning by losing pitcher and Worcester native, Jared Kapurch (St.
Petersburg). Kapurch gave up three hits before he was relieved by Austin Stone (Assumption)
later in the same inning. Stone gave up three walks and got one strikeout before being replaced
by Grafton native, Axel Johnson (Stevens Institute of Technology) in the bottom of the eighth
inning as well.
The Bravehearts’ next game will be in New Britain, CT on Tuesday, June 21st at 6:30 p.m.
against the New Britain Bees. The ‘Hearts will return home on Sunday, June 26th to face off
against the Brockton Rox at 4:00 p.m.
