Bravehearts Beat Bees in High-Scoring Slugfest

Four Run Ninth Completes Worcester’s Comeback

New Britain, CT - The Worcester Bravehearts rallied back with four runs in the ninth to beat the New Britain Bees 12-11 on Friday. After holding a 5-0 lead, the Bravehearts allowed the Bees to tie it up, giving up five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and another run in the 8th.  Andrew Chronister’s (Shippensburg) go-ahead single in the ninth scored Sal Grinstead (Palm Beach State) and former Doherty High School-Standout David Pedanou (Dayton) to give the ‘Hearts a 12-11 lead.

The game was without any hits nor runs until the top of the third, when the Bravehearts’ Matt Livingston (Siena) hit a single off of the Bees’ John Kiss (Molloy), and Chronister walked. The two scored when Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) hit a double, giving the ‘Hearts an early lead.

Worcester scored three more runs in the fourth, one on a wild pitch and two on a double hit by Jake Marquez (Maine) to make the score 5-0.

New Britain got on the scoreboard for the first time in the sixth, when two scored on a single hit by Colton Shaw (Yale), and then three more scored on a home-run hit by Anthony DePino (Univ. of R.I.), which tied the game.

The ‘Hearts briefly retook the lead in the seventh with three additional runs, only to be knocked down by the Bees when they scored five runs in the same inning, and one additional run in the eighth.

This is when the Bravehearts rallied once again, as they re-took the lead for the third time in the night in the ninth inning.

The winning pitcher was the Bravehearts’ Axel Johnson (Stevens), who pitched two innings and gave up two hits and one (unearned) run. The loss went to the Bees’ Daniel Raglievich (Post), who gave up four hits and five earned runs over two innings.

The Bravehearts will travel to Centennial Field to take on the Vermont Lake Monsters for a two game weekend series tomorrow, where first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
