4,763 in Attendance for B.I.E Day 1Bravehearts Shine Against Suns‘Hearts defeat Pittsfield in front of largest crowd since 2019
Worcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Pittsfield Suns 8-5 Wednesday afternoon at Fitton Field.
The game, contested in front of a sellout crowd of 4,763, was the first of two Baseball in Education contests this week for the ‘Hearts. The attendance figure also marks the most fans at Fitton Field for a Bravehearts game since 2019.
The win is the fifth in a row for Worcester and moves the Bravehearts to 8-2. Pittsfield falls to 6-7 with the loss.
The Bravehearts jumped on the board in the first, scoring twice. Marc Willi (Michigan) hit an RBI single that brought home Antonio Morales (Wake Forest). That was followed by a Vincent Eramo (Fitchburg State) single which scored Daniel Bucciero (Fordham).
Worcester scored another run in the second thanks to a Tyler Bastunas (Drury) RBI groundout, scoring Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic).
A four-run fourth broke the game open for the ‘Hearts. A two-run single by Warren scored both Matt Milone (SUNY Maritime) and Micah Dean (Kansas State). That was followed by a Bucciero double that allowed Bastunas and Warren to cross the plate, giving Worcester a 7-1 lead.
Pittsfield scored a run apiece in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings along with two more in the eighth, but an RBI single by Bucciero scored Bastunas again to give the Bravehearts an 8-5 lead heading into the ninth.
Bravehearts starter Max LeBlanc (UMass Amherst) got the win, giving up just one earned run in five innings on two hits, striking out eight. The losing pitcher was Pittsfield’s Ryan LaPierre (Westfield State), who allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits in four innings, walking three and striking out three. ‘Hearts reliever Dennis Colleran (Northeastern) pitched a scoreless ninth to record the save.
The Bravehearts are back at home tomorrow morning for their second Baseball in Education game against the Nashua Silver Knights, with first pitch scheduled for 10:30.
