Bravehearts Sweep Rox in Doubleheader

Worcester wins two in a row on Saturday, 5-1 and 2-1

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Brockton Rox 5-1 and 2-1 in a Saturday doubleheader, making Worcester’s overall record 24-9 in the season.  

Game One (Worcester 5-1)

The Bravehearts got the scoring started in the third inning, when Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) scored on a sacrifice-fly hit by Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern), making the game 1-0.

Worcester continued to score, tacking on an additional two runs in the fourth when Christian Limón (Amherst College) crossed home after Greg Gorman (Bryant) singled. This was followed by Gorman scoring on a triple from Mike Maher (Wheaton).

The ‘Hearts added one more run in the fifth and sixth respectively, resulting in a 5-0 lead. The Rox added one run in the seventh, when Jack Obert (Johnson & Wales) crossed home following a double to centerfield batted by Mark Gialluisi (Univ. of Virginia).

The winning pitcher was Dylan Vigue (Michigan) who allowed one hit and no runs in six innings, while the save went to Axel Johnson (Stevens) who pitched one inning, while letting up one hit and one run. The loss went to Ryan Schultz (Johnson & Wales), who let up seven hits and four runs in five innings.

Game Two (Worcester 2-1)

In the second game of the day, Brockton took their place on the scoreboard in the first inning, when Justin Bosland (Northeastern) scored on a ground out. This proved to be the Rox’s only run of the game.

The Bravehearts tacked on their first run in the bottom of the first, when Kobe Stenson (Siena) hit a solo homerun, tying the game 1-1.

Four consecutive innings were played until the Bravehearts broke the tie in the fifth. This occurred when Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg) had a fly-out to centerfield, which was followed by a rundown with Tyler Bastunas (Drury) between first and second. Seizing the opportunity, Stenson crossed the plate from third, making the score 2-1 into the end of the game.

The winning pitcher was Champ Davis (Wofford), who pitched three innings and let up no hits and no runs. The loss went to Tommy Sullivan (Franklin Pierce), who pitched just over two innings and let up one hit and one run.

The Bravehearts will be on the road for the next week, playing six away games over seven days. The next home game will be against the Norwich Sea Unicorns on Sunday, July 9th. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
