Bravehearts

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Bravehearts split a doubleheader with the Nashua Silver Knights on Thursday. The first game ended by mercy rule in Worcester’s favor at 10-0, while the second ended 9-1 Nashua.

Game One (Worcester 10-0)

The Bravehearts got the scoring started with a three-run home run by Tyler Bastunas (Drury) that also scored Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) and AJ Guindon (Wheaton).

Another three-run home run by Kevin Matos (Wheaton) in the bottom of the third drove in Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) and Vinny Eramo (Fitchburg State) and gave Worcester a 6-0 lead.

Two more runs came across in the fourth for the Bravehearts, with Bastunas scoring on a wild pitch and Matos coming in on a Michael Florides () RBI triple.

A sacrifice fly by Thorbahn in the fifth scored Warren, and an Eramo double drove in Guindon, giving the Bravehearts a 10-0 lead and ending the game by run rule.

Randy Guzman (Central Connecticut State) earned the win for the Bravehearts, pitching four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, walking two and striking out four. The loss went to Nashua starter Brayden Gray (Stonehill), who gave up six earned runs in two innings on three hits. He walked five and struck out one.

Game Two (Nashua 9-1)

Nashua was the designated home team for the second game, a make-up game initially scheduled to take place at Holman Stadium.

Nashua took the lead in the first, when a bases-clearing triple by Brady O’Brien (Colby) scored three runs. This was followed by a double in the second by Nater Wachter (SNHU), which allowed two more runs, followed by a sac-fly which ended the second inning 6-0 in Nashua’s favor.

Worcester scored one run, when Kobe Stenson (Siena) crossed home on a single hit by Tyler Bastunas (Drury).

The Silver Knights ultimately scored three more runs, beating Worcester for the win 9-1.

Thomas Rioux (Colby) earned the win, letting up five hits and one run in seven innings. Clay Robbins was the losing pitcher, letting up six hits and six runs in two innings pitched.

Worcester will be on the road tomorrow, facing the Pittsfield Suns. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. In Worcester, Fitton Field will host the alumni game, where the Worcester Police Department will play against the Worcester Fire Department. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday.
