Pittsfield, MA — The rain was falling at Wahconah Park on Monday night, but it was not enough to cool off Bravehearts pitcher Cody Laweryson. Behind a strong start from the University of Maine product and with the help of some big hits, Worcester was able to get its fourth win of the season.
Laweryson is playing in his second season for the Bravehearts, but today was the first start for the organization. Laweryson went six innings, allowing just two hits, no runs, and had 9 strike outs. The 2017 Futures League Reliever of the Year threw just 83 pitches and got his sixth win as a Braveheart, tying the all-time record for Worcester.
When asked about tying the wins record, Laweryson stayed humble. “It means a lot, but all I’m doing is trying to get wins for the team. We got a lot of good guys that are all capable of doing the same thing.” said Laweryson. “I just went out there and wanted to throw strikes, just like any other game.”
Worcester got on the board first in the fourth inning when he led off with a solo homerun from Mack Cheli. Mack contributed to the team going 3-4 with three runs batted in and scoring three runs. The scoring continued in the sixth when the bases were loaded off two walks and a hit batter. Chris Rinaldi was walked and that allowed for the second run to be brought home. The offense continued, scoring three in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one more in the ninth.
Pittsfield’s only run came in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded Chad Shade hit into a fielder’s choice which allowed for a run to score.
Worcester is back at home tomorrow June 5th, 2018 and Wednesday June 6th, 2018 at 10:30 to take on the Brockton Rox and the Bristol Blues respectively. Bravehearts move to 4-1 on the season.
