Blues Steal One on Record-Breaking Day

Worcester, MA- In a day where the Worcester Bravehearts broke their all-time attendance record with 4,439 fans entering the ballpark, they could not pull out a win against the Bristol Blues. Worcester fell short in a 6-5 loss at Hanover Insurance Park.

The Blues got their scoring going early in the third when Jeremy Sagun reached on an error by infielder Dustin Harris. After Alex Laparco reached on a walk, Richard Brereton delived an RBI single to score the first run of the game. Alex Bauman then hit another RBI single to score Laparco to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Bravehearts answered in the bottom of the inning after Michael Dellicarri hit a sacrifice fly to score Joe Pesce for the Bravehearts first run of the game. Dellicarri finished 2-3 with a run, RBI and walk.

Bristol added another run in the top of the fifth inning to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the inning, Worcester responded  with three runs of their own. After Zachary Dionne walked the bases loaded, Kyle Haag came into pitch for Bristol. On the first batter he faced, he allowed catcher Brett Coffel to rope a three-run triple down the third base line to put the Bravehearts ahead 4-3. Dionne's final line was 4 2/3 innings pitched, four runs, six walks and only two hits.

Alex Gionis added a solo home run for the 'Hearts in the sixth inning to increase the Bravehearts lead to 5-3. Gionis finished 1-4 with a walk.

The Blues tied the game in the seventh inning. Ethan Hunt was hit by a pitch and advanced on a stolen base. Two batters later, Dakota McFadden struck out Ian Ostberg, however the pitch got away from Coffel and bounced towards the pitcher. McFadden's throw sailed into the bullpen allowing Hunt to score from second. Richard Brererton then singled home Ostberg to tie the game at five.
 
In the ninth, Matthew Bonvinci blooped a single into right field to lead off the inning. Jeremy Sagun then bunted down the first base line. first basemen Mack Cheli ran into to cover the bunt, and overthrew Gionis who was covering first base, allowing pinch runner Andrew Hague to score the go-ahead and eventual game winning run.

Worcester will have an off day tomorrow before traveling to Pittsfield on Friday. Worcester's next home game will be Saturday at 7 p.m. against Pittsfield.
