Bravehearts Run Past the Rox

Worcester, MA—After trailing for much of the game, a five-run seventh inning helped the Bravehearts rally past the Rox to get above 0.500.

Brockton struck first in the first inning when Brennan Vasquez hit a two-run home run after an error by Worcester third baseman Dustin Harris allowed Matt Johnston to reach safely with two outs.

The Bravehearts would respond in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alex Gionis hit an RBI single to score Brett Coffel and cut the lead to one. Worcester tied the game in the fifth thanks to an RBI triple off the bat of Michael Dellicarri.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Bravehearts would take the lead for good with a two-out rally. After Dellicarri hit a double and Mack Cheli was intentionally walked, Coffel hit an RBI single to give Worcester a 3-2 lead. Dustin Harris followed that up with a two-run RBI double to extend the Worcester lead to three. The Rox then walked four straight batters, allowing Mariano Ricciardi and John Thrasher to score. This gave Worcester a 7-2 advantage.

Worcester would add on another run in the eighth after an error by Rox shortstop Jake Rosen allowed Cheli to score.

Michael Dellicarri went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Dustin Harris also had two hits and a pair of RBIs for Worcester.

Cody Laweryson had a strong start for Worcester. He pitched six innings, allowing just two hits and two unearned runs. Dakota McFadden picked up the win for the Bravehearts, pitching a perfect seventh inning. Sean Keneally got the loss for Brockton.

With the win, the Bravehearts improve to 6-5, while the Rox fall to 7-4. Worcester continues play tomorrow in Bristol, as they take on the Blues at 7:05 pm.
